I was furniture shopping with the wife and all I could think was “Why buy a couch when I could buy a car instead?”
Holy crap is furniture expensive though.
On an unrelated note, I realized that an Audi on display at the LSPR was (I think) a Group B car. Any one know if it is the real deal or a replica or what? Here’s the pictures I took of it.

make furniture out of car parts

And then in my mid-20s I learned there’s furniture and then there’s FURNITURE.
As a single man, I figured I could go through life on IKEA, Rooms to Go, and Ashley.
And then I learned they were all crap. It’s sort of like driving a ‘92 Corolla your whole life and never riding in another car, then you get into a new Bimmer. My point is you get what you pay for. That stuff lasts a long time.

It’s the right color combination/name for the ‘83 car, but I don’t think that’s a real one. The ‘83 cars had ducts ahead of the rear wheels.

We only buy from Ikea. They make some decent stuff, in addition to the cheap stuff.

Alternately, you just buy cars that are furniture.
Mmm, couchey.

True that.

Same motor in my car! :D

I love them for accessories and accents, but for long-term couches, chairs, bookshelves, etc, it’s really like Target-grade stuff. Plus I just got sick of building stuff :D
If you’re changing out your furniture and home design every 5-10 years, then it really makes little difference.

Question: “Why buy a couch when I could buy a car instead?”
Answer: “The wife.”
(You’re welcome.)

My wife recently wanted a couch chair thingy (don’t know what it’s called, it’s like wider than a chair/smaller than a loveseat and has a big ass ottoman).
We look through the disposable account and verify we have X grand available for a purchase like that so I’m like: ‘cool, whatever, go get the chair thing’.
Her: “But you need to come, I need your opinion”
Me: “No you don’t”
Her: “Yes, I DO”
Me: “My opinion is that it’s too expensive. It doesn’t matter what it is, how it looks, what fabric it is, furniture is always too expensive”
Her: “But I need your opinion, I don’t want to make a purchase this big on my own”
Me: “I told you my opinion”
...continues ad nauseam...
Few hours later I’m sitting bored in an obnoxious recliner while she peruses chair things occasionally asking what I think. I generally ask if there are cheaper things and occasionally mention I don’t like a fabric or whatever.
She picks a chair thing that is too expensive and is one of the very few that I commented I didn’t like aesthetically.
And so goes every furniture purchase in my house.

Looks more like Group 4 car to me. I think all the original rally cars had two headlight grille this one has four headlight openings so I think this is either a replica or modified Gr. 4 car.

Just stay away from the gaudy stuff (eg. fiberglass sofas resembling classic car rear ends.)

Yea I know, I just get hung up on a wood frame wrapped in leather costing as much as a machine with thousands of moving parts.

I don’t know that she’d agree with you

Proof that car depreciation is way steeper than it should be.
Of course, the average NEW car is $32k and the average new couch is probably $1,200.

Her: “What do you think? Do you like this couch?”
Me: “I’ve told you I don’t really care.”
Her: “But what do you think?”
Me: “All I care is that I have a place to put my ass.”

It’s furniture that you don’t get out to move around in! Put a YUUUGE flatscreen in the garage, and wall-mount drinks and snacks within reach. It’s perfect.

Man that motor was crammed in there, so much that the radiator is off to the side instead of straight in front of the engine

I like how you think

maybe for a couch, but she wants a large quality sectional, like $4k+

Ouch — yeah, that can add up quickly.
Planning on kids in the next few years? Go with something cheap and with faux leather. You’ll be glad you did. Once the kids are 10+ and can treat the home with more respect, then you buy the good stuff. $0.02.
Consignment and antique stores (at the least the ones around me) tend to have 50%+ inventory dedicated to affordable NEW items, so they get most of our business. Traditional furniture stores sell better stuff, but the prices are nuts...and negotiable.

Yea the Ur Q has a shorter front end, my S6 has the rad in front like normal, but full size is overkill for these small motors. Also the oil has its own cooler, on most cars oil is cooled by the coolant, this raises coolant temp some, and helps speed up overall warm up time. On my previous audi (B5 S4) I had both, the stock oil to water cooler, and a sandwich plate that sent oil out to a front mount cooler once it reach 180F, this helped warm up time, and keep things cooler during track abuse.
With the S6 in the winter coolant temp sits right at where the thermostat opens so I keep part of the rad blocked off to get it up to the normal operating temp at highway speeds.

Ha, if you full size it, it’s right side up.

You say that now, but then one of them will trick you into it before you realized what happened. :)

It’s a replica. This and the more eggshell colored one showed up at Magnum Opus a couple years ago too, but I haven’t gone to MO again, so can’t say if it’s regular. I just wish they’d enter them as zero cars so I could see them in action. ENOUGH SUBARUS ALREADY!
Also, thanks for the reminder that I have to post my LSPR pics.

Haha...yea Subaru’s everywhere. My dad and I would count how many subaru’s we would pass/see in a row before seeing another make. I think we had gotten up to 20 at one point

I always root for the weirdest car I can find. Among LSPR, Magnum Opus and Sno*Drift, I’ve seen a Ford Capri, Toyota Starlet & Celica, Plymouth Fire Arrow, first gen CRX, Vibe GT, Saab C900, new Mirage, S10’s, and many more- and those are just the rally cars! I guess it’s mostly that the Subarus have such good parts support.
